ABOUT THIS TOOL

About the Date Difference Calculator

Use the Date Difference Calculator to see how much time lies between two calendar dates. Pick a start date and an end date and the tool shows the gap as a total number of days and as years, months and days.

It helps with project deadlines, countdowns to an event, notice periods, contract terms and travel planning. Everything is calculated in your browser.

Tips for best results

  • Decide whether the end date should count. From 1 January to 11 January is 10 days elapsed, but 11 days if you count both dates.
  • If you enter the dates in reverse order, check that the result still makes sense for your purpose.
  • For someone's age on a date, the Age Calculator gives a more direct answer.

Frequently asked questions

How do I count the days between two dates?

Choose the earlier date as the start and the later date as the end. The tool returns the elapsed days between them.

Is the end date included?

The result is the elapsed difference. If your rule counts both the first and the last day, add one day.

Does it handle leap years?

Yes. The calculation uses real calendar dates, so leap days are included when they fall in the range.
