ABOUT THIS TOOL

About the Instagram Image Utilities

The HandyTools Instagram Image Utilities prepare a picture for the shape of the Instagram placement you are using: square post (1080 × 1080), portrait post (1080 × 1350), landscape post (1080 × 566) or story and reel (1080 × 1920).

Choose Fit entire image to keep everything visible on a background color of your choice, or Fill frame to crop the edges and cover the whole canvas. You can export as PNG, JPEG or WebP, and the image stays in your browser.

Tips for best results

  • Use Fit entire image when nothing may be cut off, such as a logo or text.
  • Keep key content away from the very top and bottom of story and reel images, where the app places buttons.
  • Platform requirements can change, so check Instagram's current guidance for important campaigns.

Frequently asked questions

What size is an Instagram post?

A square post is commonly 1080 × 1080 pixels and a portrait post is 1080 × 1350. Stories and reels use 1080 × 1920.

What is the difference between Fit and Fill?

Fit keeps the whole image and adds a background around it. Fill covers the frame and crops whatever does not fit.
